Top-seeds make the semifinal round in Tijuana

TIJUANA, Mexico, September 25, 2010 – Top seeded Yarleen Santiago and Dariam Acevedo of Puerto Rico in the women’s side and Mexicans Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen reached the semifinal round at the Tijuana Beach Volleyball Tournament, the eighth stop of the 2010 NORCECA Circuit.

To advance to the semifinals Santiago/Acevedo defeated Cubans Nirian Sinal/Kirenia Ballard 2-1 (21-19, 17-21, 15-11) while Miramontes/Virgen edged Cubans Kinderlan Alvarez/Sergio Gonzalez 2-1 (30-32, 21-18, 15-8).

In the women’s side, Mexicans Bibi Candelas/Mayra Garcia and Martha Revuelta/Xitlali Herrera also made it to the semis along with Costa Ricans Ingrid Morales/Natalia Alfaro.

Candelas/Garcia won over Morales/Alfaro 2-0 (21-14, 21-15), Revueltas/Herrera defeated Sinal/Ballard 2-0 (21-19, 23-21) and Morales/Alfaro won 2-0 (21-10, 21-19) over Americans Aurora Skarra/Kelly Haan.

The other three semifinalists in the men’s tournament were Joseph Dykstra/Aaron Mansfield of USA, Mexicans Lombardo Ontiveros/Ulises Ontiveros and Alvarez/Gonzalez.

Dykstra/Mansfield defeated Puerto Ricans Orlando Irizarry/Roberto Rodriguez 2-0 (21-18, 21-19), Ontiveros/Ontiveros prevailed against Irizarry/Rodriguez 2-0 (21-18, 25-23) and Alvarez/Gonzalez beat Maverick Hatch/Jessi Lelliot of Canada 2-0 (21-15, 21-12).
